To grow black locust trees from seed, you can follow these steps -
Scar the seeds: Break the hard seed coat by soaking the seeds in boiling water for 12–48 hours or rubbing them with 120-grit sandpaper.
Plant the seeds: Place the swollen seeds in moist potting soil about 1/4 inch deep. You can plant multiple seeds in a pot to ensure at least one germinates.
Germinate the seeds: Keep the soil moist and place the container in a cool, dark location.
Sprout the seeds: Once the seeds sprout, slowly introduce the seedling to natural or artificial light.
Transplant the seedlings: In the spring, transplant the seedlings into the ground.
