Despite the name, club moss' are not true mosses but are a spore-producing plants in the fern family. There are many species of Club Moss with many names such as ground cedar, ground pines, creeping cedar, Foxtail, Lycopod, Selago, Vegetable Sulfur and Wolf Claw. The small fern like plants are in the family Lycopodiaceae, a family of fern-allies. There are over 70 species of clubmoss widely distributed in temperate and tropical climates throughout the world, though they are confined to mountains in the tropic regions.
