Madder Root herb is used as an all natural dye for soaps and cosmetics and has been used in folk medicine for many years. The root will produce a nice red dye. Internal use is not recommended. The root comes from a climbing vine related to the coffee plant, also commonly know as Common Madder or Dyer's Madder.

The main constituents found in organic madder root are anthraquinone glycosides which decomposes to alizarin, lucidin, pseudopurpurin, xanthopurpurin, purpurin, and rubiadin).
Also found in the root are iridoid (asperulosid), organic acids, tannins, calcium, pectin, and sugars.
