Rhubarb Herb and its wide range of uses were first documented in the Divine Husbandman's Classic of Materia Medica, which was written during the later Han Dynasty, around 200 a.d. The plant has been used both as a food source and medicinally for over 2000 years! In Chinese Medicine the root is known as Da huang.

Rhubarb Herb is in the buckwheat family, (Polygonaceae). The plant originally came from northern Asia, and was quickly introduced to both India and Turkey. The fruits, stalks and roots are used for food and herbs but the leaves of Rhubarb should be considered somewhat toxic due to their high content of salts of oxalic acid.
