The Carob tree is native to Southern Europe, Northern Africa and parts of the middle east and is in the same family as peas and beans (fabaceae). The use of the fruit dates back at least 5000 years!

The fruits (pods) are dried and/or roasted to make the carob powder, a much healthier choice over chocolate with NO caffeine! Compared to regular chocolate, carob has considerably less sugar, a fraction of the fat content, and 1/3 of the calories! Traditional culinary uses are abundant including using in baked good such as cakes, cookies and candies and in drinks to replace coffee or cocoa.
Simply replacing Cocoa with Carob can have positive effects on blood pressure and may lower your heart rate.
