As a spice oregano goes well with many, many foods. Use on Pork, Chicken, Beef, in soups, salads, pasta, chili, pesto and my personal favorite, charred atop of baked fish! Experimenting with oregano in your cooking adventures is fun and rewarding!
As an herb oregano is surprisingly rich in flavor making an excellent tea containing a natural source of vitamin A, C, E, K as well as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. Oregano contains carvacrol, cymene, thymol, borneol, terpinene, pinene, linalyl acetate, bisabolene, linalool, caryophyllene and geranyl acetate. These chemicals may contribute to the antimicrobial and antioxidant actions of Oregano.
Native to Europe, Asia and the Mediterranean, Oregano is grown and harvested throughout the world. Sometimes called marjoram, Oregano is a perennial herb that can easily be grown by your average home gardener. Give it a try sometime. Growing your own herbs can be very rewarding!
Occult and Magick uses - Associated with protection as well as animals, grieving, harmony, love and peace. A commonly used magic herb among alternative religious practices.
