Among medicinal Mushrooms Reishi holds the #1 spot in Chinese Medicine, having been used for the past 2000 years! Also known as Ling Zhi in Chinese, yeongji in Korea, and ling chih in Vietnamese.

Reishi is a polypore mushroom, sponge like, with a red-varnished kidney shaped cap that can have wide variations. Polypores lacks gills on the underside and release spores through fine tubes (pores). Polypore tubes are honey-comb-like structures, where the individual tubes have fused together. Polypores are also known as bracket fungi or conks.

Reishi contains compounds of triterpenes called ganoderic acids, which have a molecular structure similar to steroid hormones. It is also high in polysaccharides and other compounds often found in edible or medicinal fungi.

Many herbalists make what could only be called a "Super Mushroom Tea" by mixing  Reishi, Chaga and Turkey Tail. These are the big three in medicinal mushrooms. An antioxidant powerhouse for sure!
